Common questions
- What do I need to run it?
- Pulse needs (empty). It runs on macOS, iOS, iPadOS.
- What is the Mac app for?
- The Mac app does the measuring. It reads performance, thermals, memory, storage, power, and process information in real time, and works as a complete monitoring app on its own. Pulse on iPhone and iPad lets you see what each Mac is reporting when you're away from its screen.
- How do I connect my phone to my Mac?
- Install Pulse on the Mac you want to monitor and leave it running. On the same network, the Mac appears in Pulse on iPhone or iPad so you can connect directly. There is no Pulse account to create and no internet configuration required.
- Can I check on my Mac when I'm not at home?
- Yes. With a mesh VPN such as Tailscale, your iPhone or iPad can connect to your Mac while you're away just as it does on your local network. The connection stays between devices you control, without an Avenue Apps relay in the middle.
- It can't reach my Mac.
- First check that Pulse is still running on the Mac and that the Mac is awake. If you're connecting from outside your local network, confirm that the mesh VPN is connected on both devices. Pulse connects directly to machines you control, so both ends need to be reachable.
- What do you collect about me?
- Nothing is collected by Avenue Apps. Pulse has no Avenue Apps account and no analytics that send your personal data back to us. Information the app saves stays on your devices or, where applicable, in your own iCloud. The privacy policy explains the details.
- Can you add something?
- Please do. Feature requests are welcome, especially when they make the app more useful without adding unnecessary complexity.
Reporting a bug
A screenshot can make a problem much easier to identify. If Pulsecrashes, leaving crash reporting enabled in your device's privacy settings can also provide useful technical details through Apple and help narrow down the cause.
