Need a hand with Ledger?
Send a message to the address above with your question, bug report or feature request.
If something isn't working as expected, let us know which device you're using, your OS version and what happened. If you've found a reliable way to make the problem happen again, those steps are especially helpful.
Every message is read, and you can usually expect a reply within two working days. If a few days have passed and you haven't heard back, feel free to send it again.
Common questions
- What do I need to run Ledger?
Ledger requires macOS 14.6, iOS or iPadOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, or tvOS 18.6 or later. It's available across Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro.
- How does syncing work?
Ledger uses your own private iCloud database to keep your business current across your devices. There's no separate Ledger account and no Avenue apps server sitting between them.
Sign your devices into the same Apple Account, make sure iCloud is enabled for Ledger, and your changes can follow you from one device to the next.
- Can I use Ledger without iCloud?
Absolutely. Turn off iCloud sync and Ledger can keep everything locally on your Mac instead. Nothing needs to be uploaded just to use the app.
If you change your mind later, you can turn syncing back on without losing the information you entered while working locally.
- My devices are showing different numbers. What should I do?
Give them a moment first. One device may simply be waiting for its latest iCloud changes.
If things still don't match, check that both devices are signed into the same Apple Account, iCloud is enabled for Ledger, and both have been online recently. Once they reconnect, Ledger should catch up automatically.
- Where do my invoices and business records live?
On your devices and, if you've enabled sync, in your private iCloud database. Avenue apps doesn't receive or store your invoices, clients or other business records.
You're never locked into Ledger either. Invoices and quotes can be exported as PDFs whenever you want a copy outside the app.
- Do I need to back up?
If you sync through iCloud, your records already live on every device you own and come back on their own when you sign in on a new Mac. You don't need a backup for that.
A backup is for the other two cases. If something gets deleted by accident, iCloud dutifully syncs the deletion everywhere, and a backup is what you go back to. And if you run Ledger locally with sync switched off, a backup is your only copy.
- How do I back up my Ledger data?
Ledger exports everything you have into a single backup file. Encryption is optional: turn it on and the file is locked with AES-256, or leave it off for a plain copy. Keep it wherever suits you, an external drive, a folder that syncs somewhere else, or both.
- How do I restore from a backup?
Open Ledger on the device you're restoring to and import the backup file. Everything comes back as it was when the backup was made, which is why it's worth taking one before any big change.
An unencrypted backup restores anywhere, with no conditions.
- Restoring an encrypted backup on another Mac
The key for an encrypted backup lives in your Apple Keychain rather than in the file. To restore one on a different Mac, that Mac needs to be signed into the same Apple Account with Keychain syncing turned on, so the key can reach it.
If you're moving machines and aren't certain Keychain sync is on, take an unencrypted backup too. It's the one situation where the plain copy is the safer choice.
- What does Avenue apps collect about me?
Ledger doesn't require any data be sent to us, and there are no Avenue apps analytics collecting your personal or business data. The information you save stays on your devices or, in your private iCloud.
You can find the full details in the Privacy Policy.
- Can I request a feature?
Please do. If there's something that would make Ledger better for the way you work, we'd like to hear about it.
The goal is always to make Ledger more capable without making it more complicated.
Reporting a bug
The more we know, the easier it is to track down. A screenshot is often helpful, along with your device, OS version and the steps that led to the problem.
If Ledger crashes, leaving crash reporting enabled in your device's privacy settings can also provide useful technical information through Apple and help narrow down what went wrong. The settings panel also has a log, and you may be asked to copy the text and send it back to us.
